Slug-Buster is a punch profile—not a universal driver standard
Greenlee uses the Slug-Buster name for a knockout punch profile that splits the slug during punching. The punch still operates inside a complete system: driver → draw stud → punch → die → material/capacity. The Slug-Buster label alone does not prove that any punch, die or stud combination is valid.

New K2 parts replace selected legacy 7211BB components
Greenlee's newer K2 Slug-Buster line adds laser markings, alignment marks and updated geometry. Individual current product pages explicitly identify which legacy catalog number a K2 item replaces—for example, K2BB-1-1/4 replaces 7211BB-1-1/4. That replacement statement is much stronger evidence than assuming parts are equivalent because the conduit size matches.
Compare Greenlee Slug-Buster sets and components
Search by conduit size and current/legacy catalog number. Verify whether the listing is a complete set, punch-only, die-only or punch/die/stud unit.
Use the knockout finder when the driver is already known
If you already own a Greenlee manual, hydraulic or battery driver—or a Milwaukee system with a documented competitive-accessory adapter path—use the Knockout Punch & Die Finder. It keeps the driver, stud, punch/die family, conduit size and material attached to the result instead of treating “Slug-Buster compatible” as a blanket statement.
Manual, hydraulic and battery setups still use different system components
Greenlee may document the same current Slug-Buster punch profile for several driver types, but the draw-stud path is not automatically identical. A manual ratchet setup and an 11-ton hydraulic system can use different stud arrangements and capacities even when the final conduit-size hole is the same. That is why the site’s knockout data model stores the driver and stud separately from the punch/die family.
When replacing only one component from an older kit, identify all four pieces—driver, stud, punch and die—before ordering. A new K2 punch that replaces a legacy punch catalog number does not, by itself, prove that every legacy die/stud combination should be carried forward.
Slug-Buster vs Standard Round vs Slug-Splitter
These names should not be collapsed into one Greenlee knockout category. Slug-Buster describes the split-slug punch profile commonly used for contractor knockout work. Standard Round is a separate round-punch family with broader large-size coverage in Greenlee’s current overview. Slug-Splitter is associated with stainless-focused hydraulic applications. Select the family from the driver/material/application documentation rather than from the hole diameter alone.
