Source-backed die-family compatibility

Crimp Die Finder

Start with the exact crimper model and choose the die family you want to use. The finder shows whether the reviewed manufacturer documentation supports that tool/head/die-family path—and what jaw or adapter is required.

Important scope

This finder validates tool/head → die-family relationships. It does not approve a connector termination. Connector manufacturer, conductor material/size, connector catalog number, die/index and crimp instructions still control the completed connection.

How to read the result

Manufacturer-listed / documented

The reviewed tool documentation explicitly supports the selected die family on that tool/head.

Documented with jaw or adapter

The die family is supported only through a named jaw, die adapter or head configuration.

Not in the documented tool path

The selected family belongs to another documented architecture or is explicitly outside the reviewed setup.

Unknown / insufficient documentation

The reviewed documents do not establish a clean relationship. Unknown is not treated as permission to try a physically fitting die.

Why die-family compatibility is only one layer

A 12-ton C-head can be documented to accept industry U-style dies and still require a connector-specific die index, conductor range and crimp sequence. Likewise, a 6-ton jaw may accept industry W-style dies without proving that a particular lug or splice is listed with every W-die brand. The Compatibility Methodology therefore keeps tool/die fit separate from connector approval.

Once the finder establishes the tool/die architecture, continue with the Crimping Dies guide, the Burndy Die Chart, or the manufacturer-specific die pages. For tool selection, see Cable Crimpers, Milwaukee Crimping Tools, Greenlee Crimping Tools and Burndy Crimpers.

Crimp Die Finder FAQs

Does the Crimp Die Finder approve a connector termination?

No. It verifies documented tool/head-to-die-family relationships within the reviewed scope. The exact connector, conductor, die/index, number and location of crimps, and manufacturer instructions still control the finished termination.

Are all W-style dies interchangeable?

Some tool and die manufacturers explicitly document industry-standard W-style die acceptance. That establishes the die-family fit only. It does not make every connector application approved across brands.

Are all 12-ton U dies interchangeable?

Several 12-ton tools are documented for industry U-style dies, but a die physically fitting a C-head does not establish connector approval. Use the connector manufacturer’s table for the exact catalog number, conductor and die index.

Why does the finder sometimes return Unknown?

Unknown is used when the reviewed manufacturer documents do not establish the exact relationship. The site does not infer compatibility from shape, tonnage or anecdotal physical fit.

Why are there no shopping links in the finder results?

Crimping has a stricter approval chain than ordinary tool selection. The finder keeps technical verification separate from purchasing so a documented die-family fit is not mistaken for approval of a specific connector termination.
