Greenlee Draw Stud Guide

Separate Greenlee manual DSBB ball-bearing draw studs from hydraulic DSH studs, then match the stud size to the documented punch, die and driver system.

Compatibility rule

Match the exact model, application and replacement/accessory family before buying. Similar size or physical fit is not enough when the manufacturer documents different blades, studs, jaws, shoes or supports.

Greenlee has separate manual and hydraulic draw-stud families

The most important distinction is not simply 7/16 versus 3/4 inch. Greenlee’s manual Slug-Buster kits use ball-bearing draw studs, while pump-hydraulic and battery-hydraulic systems use the DSH hydraulic draw-stud path. Mixing those categories by thread size alone can produce a physically plausible but undocumented setup.

The same Greenlee hydraulic stud family spans several drivers

Greenlee makes a useful explicit compatibility statement across current product documentation: the applicable hydraulic draw studs are used with Intelli-PUNCH, LS50L2 and the 746A ram. That makes the DSH family a reusable part of multiple Greenlee hydraulic systems.

The scope matters. The statement should not be extended to the manual DSBB ball-bearing studs or to an unlisted competitor driver simply because a thread appears to fit.

After identifying manual DSBB vs hydraulic DSH and the punch size

Compare current Greenlee draw studs

Use the family name and size—DSBB manual or DSH hydraulic—plus the exact punch/die and driver context when comparing replacement listings.

Stud choice does not determine stainless capability by itself

The current 7238SB manual ratchet kit and Greenlee hydraulic/battery kits do not share one material rating. A hydraulic DSH stud does not “upgrade” a manual punch/die system, and a manual DSBB stud should not be substituted into a hydraulic system without explicit documentation. Keep material, punch generation, die and driver attached to the stud choice.

Use the finder when you start from the tool or punch family

The Knockout Punch & Die Finder can return the documented Greenlee stud family as part of the complete tool → punch/die → size → material chain. For kit-level context, see the Greenlee Knockout Set Guide and Greenlee Slug-Buster Guide.

Greenlee Draw Stud Guide FAQs

What is the difference between Greenlee DSBB and DSH draw studs?

DSBB refers to the manual ball-bearing draw-stud path used in manual knockout systems, while DSH identifies Greenlee hydraulic draw-stud families. They should not be treated as one universal stud system.

Which Greenlee hydraulic draw stud is used for a 1/2 inch knockout?

Greenlee’s hydraulic usage table maps the 1/2 inch conduit-size path to DSH-7/16.

Which Greenlee hydraulic draw stud is used for 3/4 through 2 inch knockouts?

Greenlee maps the common 3/4 through 2 inch hydraulic knockout range to DSH-3/4.

Which Greenlee draw stud is used for 2-1/2 through 4 inch knockouts?

The current Greenlee hydraulic selection table maps the larger 2-1/2 through 4 inch range to DSH-1-1/8 when used with the applicable hydraulic punch/die system.

Do LS50L2, Intelli-PUNCH and 746A use the same hydraulic studs?

Greenlee explicitly states that the applicable hydraulic draw studs are shared across Intelli-PUNCH, LS50L2 and the 746A ram. That statement does not automatically include manual DSBB studs.
